Dr. Mary Wellhoner M.D.

Dr. Wellhoner received her medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque in 1992.   In 1999 Dr. Wellhoner founded the Women’s Wellness Center in Reno, which focuses on integrating conventional and alternative approaches to women’s health care.

Dr. Wellhoner practices general gynecology but specializes in menopausal issues and incorporates alternative therapies, nutrition and bioidentical treatments into traditional medical practice to enhance wellness, hormone balance and sexual health.  She regularly works with local compounding pharmacists to help women with special hormone replacement needs and has a broad understanding of the usefulness of Chinese medicine in women’s health.

Cultivation of inner peace and balance are important for both physical health and outer beauty.  Dr. Wellhoner understands that self-image and confidence are important aspects of a woman’s overall wellness. Dr. Wellhoner has a long-standing interest in global health and is finishing a Masters in Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins and plans to do volunteer work in international maternal health.  Dr. Wellhoner also volunteers at the University of Nevada, Reno student outreach clinic, which provides free care for uninsured women.  She has lived in Reno with her husband and two children, now ages 15 and 13, for the last 11 years.
